The Ministry of Railways has shared breathtaking pictures of the New Delhi Railway Station which is all set to get a make over.
One of the busiest and most important railway stations in the country, the New Delhi Railway Station is strategically located in the heart of the national capital, with proximity to Connaught Place, Delhi’s prime commercial hub.
The railway station is also connected to the Indira Gandhi International Airport through the Airport Express Line and the Yellow Line of the Delhi Metro.
The Ministry shared pictures on its official Twitter handle, further stating that the aim of the redevelopment is to provide “an enriched passenger experience with complete integration of different modes of transport” at the New Delhi Railway Station:This is also one of the flagship projects of the Rail Land Development Authority (RLDA), a statutory body under the Railway Ministry.
According to the RLDA, the station will be equipped with new-age amenities such as dome-shaped terminal buildings, 40-floor high-rise twin towers, pedestrian boulevard with high-street shopping and two Multi-Modal Transport Hubs (MMTH) on each side of the station.
The redevelopment of the major railway station will boost tourism aspects and aid in the socio-economic development of the region.
The RLDA is currently working on the redevelopment of 62 railway stations in a phased manner. In the first phase, the RLDA has prioritized prominent stations like New Delhi, Dehradun, Tirupati, Nellore, Puducherry, Panipat, and Ernakulam for redevelopment.
