It has not been long since we witnessed a video shot at Sion Hospital in Mumbai showing bodies of coronavirus patients lying in a ward along with those undergoing treatment. A similar video has surfaced from the KEM Hospital, also in Mumbai which shows bodies of Coronavirus patients wrapped in blue polythene lying next to patients undergoing treatment.

Both the videos have been shared by BJP MLA Nitesh Rane triggering outrage against the Maharashtra government led by Uddhav Thackeray.

In his tweet, BJP MLA Nitesh Rane has said, “KEM hospital today at 7 am! I think the BMC wants us to get used to seeing dead bodies around us while taking treatment because they just don’t want to improve! Feel bad for the health workers too who have to work in such conditions!! Is there any hope?”

The state-run KEM hospital is a dedicated coronavirus facility in Mumbai.

A few days ago, a similar video from Sion Hospital had gone viral on social media after which several BJP leaders, including former CM Devendra Fadnavis, launched an attack on the Maharashtra government.

Dr Pramod Ingle, dean of the Lokmanya Tilak Municipal General Hospital in Sion area, said the reluctance of relatives to collect bodies led to this situation.

A statement issued by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) quoted him as saying that a probe will be conducted into the genuineness of the video.

The Dean said relatives of coronavirus victims are often reluctant to take possession of bodies, and “that is the reason why the bodies were kept there unattended.
