Former Team India cricketer and legendary batsman recently shared former South Africa president Nelson Mandela’s quote on social media to state how sport has the power to change the world.
Athletes have been fuming after a Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin was charged on Friday with murder in the death of unarmed 46-year-old Floyd.
Cellphone footage of the white officer kneeling on Floyd’s neck prompted a wave of protests across the United States.Along with the quote, Sachin also shared a video posted by the International Cricket Council (ICC). The short clip is from the 2019 men’s ODI World Cup final, which was won by England.
“Without diversity, cricket is nothing. Without diversity, you don’t get the full picture,” ICC had captioned the video.
“Nelson Mandela once said, ‘Sport has the power to change the world. It has the power to unite the world in a way that little else does.’ Wise words,” Sachin tweeted.
