Return to UAE becomes a Nightmare as Air India Express Charges Exorbitant ticket prices

Following the announcement from the Civil Aviation Ministry, Air India Express had expressed interest to operate its flights between July 12 and 26 from India to UAE for Indians with UAE work permits. But travellers were in for a rude shock when they tried to book tickets through the Air India Express Website. A one way ticket fare from Cochin to Dubai cost approximately Rs. 29,650 and from Cochin to Sharjah cost Rs 24,650. The budget airline is charging four times more than the same period last year.

It is indeed unfortunate to see Air India Express taking advantage of the current situation. People waiting to return are those who need to get to their jobs soon in fear of losing it altogether and those who are stuck in India needing to join their near ones in UAE. Air fares to UAE during this time last year ranged from Rs 6,000 to Rs 7,000.

AI Express says eligible passengers travelling on India-UAE flights will need to “carry Covid-19 negative test result of PCR test conducted not more than 96 hours before departure.” AI further said that as per an agreement between Civil Aviation Authorities of India and UAE, “AI and AI Express operating evacuation flights to bring Indian citizens from UAE to India will carry ICA approved UAE residents (returning to UAE from India) on the outward journey from India to UAE. On the India to UAE journey, all these flights will carry only those passengers who destined for the UAE. This arrangement will be operational for 15 days from July 12 to July 26, 2020,”
