Raghuram Rajan Bio

Raghuram Govinda Rajan, an Indian Economist, is best known to be the 23rd Governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI); in 2015, during his tenure at the RBI, he also became the Vice-Chairman of the Bank for International Settlements(Sept’2013- Sept’2016). He also worked as Chief Economist and Director of Research at the International Monetary Fund (IMF) (Sept’ 2003- January 2007), and Chief Economic Adviser in Government of India from August 2012 to September 2013. Currently, Rajan is the Katherine Dusak Miller Distinguished Service Professor of Finance at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. In 2014, it was suggested by economists all over the world that he could replace Christine Lagarde as head of the IMF, and Euromoney Magazine conferred the Best Bank Governor Award to Raghuram Rajan. In 2016, Time magazine named Rajan on the list of the ‘100 Most Influential People in the World.’ In September 2017, his book “I Do What I Do” was released. The book received massive media attention for being critical of government policies.
