Jayashree Ullal

Jayshree V. Ullal is an American billionaire businesswoman, president, and CEO of Arista Networks, a cloud networking company responsible for the deployment of 10/25/40/50/100 Gigabit Ethernet networking in the data center.

In the 1980s, Jayshree began her career by working in a semiconductor company, designing high-speed memory chips for IBM and Hitachi. In 1983, the networking company was at its peak. Thereafter, she developed an interest in marketing. In 1988, she moved on to Ungermann-Bass, a company that made 40 million dollars a year by developing and selling networking products. Ungermann-Bass was at a competition with Cisco in its early stages of development. Later, Ullal decided to join a startup company, Crescendo Communications, that was purchased by Cisco Systems. At Cisco, Ullal looked after the company’s business in key enterprise markets, including wiring closet switching, datacenter backbone for increasing layer 2-3 convergence, and Customer Premise Equipment for remote WAN access. She led Cisco to the top position in LAN switching to drive efforts to ensure it as a leading company. She hiked the company’s switching business to 5 billion dollars in annual sales. While at Cisco, she also oversaw more than 20 mergers and acquisitions and turned out to become senior vice president of Data Center & Switching and then later, left in 2008.

In October 2008, co-founders Andy Bechtolsheim & David Cheriton announced Ullal CEO & President of Arista Networks, a cloud networking company located in Santa Clara, California. Initially, it was a four-year-old company that she helped transform into a world leader in networking technology. At the time of her joining, Arista lacked in revenues and had less than 50 employees in the company. In June 2014, she led the company to a notable and successful IPO, extending the Arista business from 2.7 billion dollars to the 20 billion dollars market capitalization on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol ANET. She has earned a rank in the Forbes list of America’s 60 richest self-made women. Jayshree lost her younger sister Susie, who was fighting lung cancer, and she describes it as one of the biggest challenges of her life. She also started a family foundation, SITA, in the honor of her younger sister.

According to Forbes magazine, Jayshree is named as “one of the top five most influential people in the networking industry ” for her work at Arista Networks. Jayshree Ullal is counted among the 72 self-made women billionaires on the planet through her 5% stake in the company, some of which is set apart for her two children, niece, and nephew. On 14 January 2012, Jayshree Ullal and Vijay Ullal performed a duet “Zoobie Doobie” at the Saratoga’s Got Talent.
