Jiribam-Imphal railway line
Indian Railways has completed a major milestone for the Jiribam-Imphal railway line. The project is expected to connect Manipur to the rest of the country via the railway network.

The project
The railway-line project is a national project which has now attained a major milestone by launching all its girders on a 555.5 m long, and a 100 m tall rail bridge over Makru river in Manipur.

Record maker
One huge highlight of the Jiribam-Imphal railway line project is that it will have India’s tallest girder rail bridge. The bridge will have a pier height of 141 metres, which is twice the height of Delhi’s Qutub Minar.

The project was awarded in the year 2008 with a budget of Rs 13,809 crore. The project is expected to be completed by March 2022.

Economic boom
The government pointed out that apart from better connectivity, the Jiribam-Imphal rail line will also improve the economic situation of the state.
