Doctor tied up, trashed and dragged on roads by Andhra Pradesh Cops

In a shocking incident, a doctor was allegedly tied up, dragged on the road and trashed indiscriminately by the police officials in Visakhapatnam’s Akkayyapalem area. Onlookers watched on while the cops mercilessly trashed the doctor after tying him up. They even dragged him on the highway before finally taking him to the police station. The video has since then gone viral online on social media platforms.

The officials claimed that the affected doctor, identified as Dr Sudhakar, ‘created ruckus’ on the highway and also ‘misbehaved’ with the on-duty police officials. So far, a police constable has been suspended in connection with the case.

Besides criticism from social media users over police apathy, the incident has also flared up a political storm in the state. The opposition Telugu Desam Party and the Communist Party of India (CPI) have slammed the serving government over the incident. They said that it reflects the law and order situation in Andhra Pradesh.

Dr. Sudhakar, an anaesthetist was suspended two months ago by the state government after raising the issue of shortage of N95 masks for medical frontliners in the state. In the month of March, he alleged that medical practitioners in the state were not given N95 masks and were asked to use one mask for at least 15 days. Following his allegations, the health department issued orders of suspension against him on charges of spreading “false information”.

Former AP CM and TDP supremo Chandrababu Naidu accused the Andhra Pradesh government of treating Dr.Sudhakar in a “barbaric” manner. Maintaining that the aforesaid doctor was not a thief for raising concerns over N95 masks, Naidu remarked that he could have been taken into custody without beating him and tying his hands with the rope. Condemning this incident, the TDP supremo called upon CM YS Jagan Mohan Reddy to answer pertinent questions regarding the humiliation of Dr.Sudhakar.
